Recipe Old Fashioned Southern Green Beans
Heat bacon grease in large saucepan on medium high heat.
Recipe old fashioned southern green beans. Move the green beans around occasionally with tongs to ensure that the green beans on the top make their way to the bottom to season and cook. Add the green beans and boil about 30 minutes or until beans test done with a fork. 1 hour 30 min total time.
Add onion and sauté 5 minutes or until tender. Pour green beans into a colander to remove any liquid from jar or can. In a large cast iron or other heavy skillet cook bacon over medium heat until crisp about 5 minutes.
Place pork in a sauce pot over medium heat. About 4 to 6 servings ingredients. Cook bacon in a dutch oven over medium heat 10 minutes or until browned and crisp.
Place beans in a medium pot. Slice the pork side meat into thick slices. Cover with water just to top of beans.
4 1 2 cups of water. Cook for 1 to 2 hours or until the green beans have reached your desired level of doneness. 2 pounds fresh green snap or pole beans kentucky runners or half runners if possible.
Cover reduce heat and simmer 40 to 45 minutes or until beans are very tender. If using fresh green beans snap them and wash them then drain them. Add enough water to cover green beans.
