Recipe Old Fashioned Custard
Place four 6 ounce custard cups ramekins in a large baking pan.
Recipe old fashioned custard. Place the custard cups in a large baking pan with sides that are nearly as tall as the custard cups. Pour into the slow cooker and cook covered on high heat for 1 1 2 to 2 hours until the tip of a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Heat the oven to 325 f.
Whisk in the milk vanilla and nutmeg and blend thoroughly. This is similar to an old recipe my mother used to make. Fill the pan with hot water to a depth almost even to the top of the custard cups.
In a medium bowl whisk together the milk eggs salt and sugar. If you like the real old fashioned egg custard the ratio of eggs to milk should be about 1 egg to 1 cup of milk. Instead of a gallon of milk i used a quart.
Divide the custard mixture evenly among the custard cups. Pour the hot water around the custard cups being careful not to spill any water into the cups. You want the level of the hot water on the outside of the cup to be just at the level of the custard.
