Old Fashioned Trifle Recipe
Scoop 6 or 8 cherries out of the jar and place onto kitchen paper to absorb some of the liquid.
Old fashioned trifle recipe. The traditional english trifle uses maderia cake and port wine jelly. Slice sponge into fingers strips and arrange in the base of a large glass bowl. Place on top of the trifle.
Whip the cream and spread on to the trifle. Make jelly according to directions on packet. To assemble the trifle tip the bowl from side to side to make sure all the madeira has soaked into the sponges the peel and slice the bananas.
Put back into the fridge until ready to serve. Treat your family and friends to this superb traditional boozy trifle full of sherry raspberries and cream especially popular at christmas time. The classic trifle dessert is always a favourite at christmas time.
Pour into shallow container. After several hours when cold whip the cream and spread over the top of the trifle. Arrange the fruit on top.
Pour over the jelly mixture press down well with the back of a spoon and smooth the top. Then top the trifle with any leftover fruit before piling high with whipped cream. Bring up to 600ml 1pt with the reserved juice sherry if used and water.
Stir in remaining milk. Finish off with flaked almonds. Pour onto the set jelly.
